What are matching outfits?

Everyone loves a matching family outfit, from those awkward 80s family photos you had at a photo shop, to new parents matching their newborn twins in identical onesies.

But for many families new to the world of matching family outfits, you may be wondering what *are* matching family outfits?

Matching family outfits are also referred to as mini and me matching, sibling clothing, twinning and matchy matchy to give a few examples. It involves wearing complementary or similar elements of clothing or accessories. Below we have listed some of the types of matching family outfits below.

1. Matching Style and Fabrics

Matching clothing style and fabrics involves the exact same clothing style being made in different sizes to suit all family members. For example, Dad and son wearing the same button up shirt, or Mum and daughter wearing the same dress.

2. Matching Fabrics

Matching fabrics involves using the same fabric but without the garments beings identical. For example, brother and sister wearing the same fabric print but in a pair of shorts and skirt respectively, or Mum wearing the fabric print in a dress and son wearing the print in a shirt.

3. Matching Clothing Style

The style of the clothing is the same but the fabric and trims are different. For example, Mum and daughter wearing the same dress but one is pink and the other is purple.

4. Matching Accessories

Nothing needs to be identical, rather you have a matching theme. For example, all wearing white t-shirts and jeans.
